Spokane Zephyr FC Press Release
Spokane Zephyr FC’s Emina Ekić, Sophia Braun and Riley Tanner have been called up to the national team to play for their respective senior national teams later this month. They are among the first USL Super League players to represent their country in a FIFA window.
Brown is scheduled to represent Argentina in an international friendly against the United States on October 30. She played 29 games for the Argentina national team. She is scheduled to attend training camp on October 26 and is expected to return to club action after the match.
Brown plays for the Argentina national team and scored Argentina’s first goal at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Brown has appeared in five games for the Zephyrs this season, totaling 382 minutes.
“It’s always an honor to represent Argentina and wear the jersey,” Brown said. “Playing against the United States will be really special for me. I know hearing both countries before the game will be emotional because they represent my mixed nationalities. Being able to compete against a powerhouse like the United States is really important to us. “We hope we can showcase our passion for the game and provide real competition to the reigning Olympic champions.”
Ekic has been named in the Bosnia and Herzegovina national team for the UEFA European Women’s Championship play-off match against Serbia later this month. Ekic was first called up to the Bosnia and Herzegovina national team in 2023 and has since made 12 appearances for the national team.
Bosnia and Herzegovina will play Serbia in the W Euro knockout stages on October 25th and 29th. Ekić will report to camp on October 21 and return to Spokane after the game.
Ekić has appeared in five games for Spokane this season. She scored her first goal for Zephyr in her first game and has two goals and two assists on the season so far.
“It’s an honor and a privilege to be one of the first players in the league,” Ekić said. “I am very excited to represent Zephyr, USL and Bosnia on the international stage.”
Tanner has been called up to the Panama women’s national team camp later this month. She is scheduled to enter the training center on October 21st.
Tanner has won 14 caps for Panama, including three appearances at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup. She also played in three matches of the 2024 CONCACAF W Gold Cup for Panama.
“This set of games is the beginning of a new era for Panama.” Tanner said. “We have just hired a new coach and I am delighted to get to know her and her style of play. I look forward to qualifying as a coach and helping her win her first international friendly as we build towards the World Cup.”
The Zephyr plays its final home game of the fall against Tampa Bay Sun FC at ONE Spokane Stadium on October 27th at 2:00 PM PDT. They will conclude the fall season with a six-game road trip.
