Former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali has not forgiven India pacer Mohammed Shami for his remarks on Inzamam-ul-Haq. He said the fast bowler’s choice of words was not right as he always uses obscene words whenever he is asked about Pakistan cricketers.
Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami has not been kind to former Pakistan cricketers. When some former Pakistan cricketers questioned his bowling in the 2023 ICC World Cup, he gave a fierce reply on time and did not back down even a single step.
Mohammed Shami was accused of using a modified ball with chips in the ICC World Cup 2023. And Inzamam-ul-Haq has made another allegation against Indian national cricket team pacer Arshdeep Singh in the recently concluded T20 World Cup 2024.
Inzamam-ul-Haq accused India of tampering with the ball, highlighting that Arshdeep Singh’s ball was bowled backwards in the 15th over. Mohammed Shami also responded, calling the claim “cartoonish” and accusing Inzamam of trying to fool the public.
When Mohammed Shami gave a direct answer to Inzamam-ul-Haq, Basit Ali was not kind to the Indian pacer. He said that the fast bowler’s words were not harsh because Inzamam was the captain of the Pakistan team and that he should learn to respect his seniors. He explained in a video posted on his YouTube channel:
“It is not right for Shami to talk about Inji Bai and call him a cartoon. Injimam led this country and was the captain. Shami, your choice of words is not good. We praise your bowling but you should have chosen your words better. You did not choose your words well and that hurt me.”
“If you think Inji Bai has said something wrong, tell him politely. Don’t call him a cartoon or anything like that. Be respectful. He’s your senior. You have to respect your senior. If you don’t respect him, Cricket will make you cry 300 days out of 365 and be happy only 65 days. So please don’t do that. It’s a personal favor.”
Your elders probably didn’t teach you this – Basit Ali on Mohammed Shami
Basit Ali further attacked Mohammed Shami, saying his elders did not teach him how to respect his elders. He elaborated.
“No matter what question I ask you, you keep giving ‘behuda’ (obscene) answers. I am using the correct word ‘behuda’ (obscene). Please use Aapne behuda zabaan use kiya hai (I used obscene language). Your elders probably did not teach you this.”
Mohammed Shami underwent Achilles surgery earlier this year. The fast bowler has not played any cricket since the ICC World Cup 2023. He was the top wicket taker in the tournament and helped India reach the final. Since the tournament, he has missed a lot of cricket, including the Indian Premier League and the T20 World Cup 2024. The fast bowler has resumed bowling at the National Cricket Academy and is likely to return for the Test series at home to Bangladesh later this year.
