Sony is improving the PS5’s Discord integration to allow you to join voice calls directly from the console. Discord support on PS5, which first launched last year, currently requires you to manually transfer calls to the console using the Discord app on mobile or PC. Sony is now releasing an update that will integrate Discord directly into the PS5 dashboard, allowing you to select which server or DM group you want to join.
The update will be rolled out gradually over the coming weeks, starting with PS5 owners in Japan and Asia, then across Europe, Australia, New Zealand, the Middle East, and finally the US and Canada. To get the new Discord integration, your PS5 will need to be updated to the latest system software, and your PlayStation Network account will also need to be linked to your Discord account.
“To get started, select the Discord tab in Game Base within the PS5 Control Center and select the Discord server or DM group you want to join,” explains Sabrina Meditz, Senior Director of Product Management for PlayStation Platform Experience. “Then select the voice channel you want. This will display more detailed information, including who is already participating in the channel chat. You’ll also receive a PS5 console notification when another Discord user calls you, so you can join right away.”
Sony will also introduce the ability to share your PlayStation Network profile across any messaging or social app via a new profile sharing option in the PlayStation mobile app next week. This feature creates a shareable link or QR code so people can easily add you as a friend.
