A group of former members of the original development team behind RPG darling Disco Elysium today revealed the first new title from new British studio XXX Nightshift. No, I don’t feel déjà vu. This actually happened twice in one day. This reveal comes hot on the heels of the announcement of Longdue, another indie studio from former Disco employees.
Dark Math Games’ first title will be a single-player sci-fi RPG that promises significant depth and unique mechanics.
XXX Nightshift puts players in the role of ‘Patrol Agent’ Dinorah Katz in the year 2086. Katz is stranded in a luxury ski resort in Antarctica and trapped along with a bunch of other characters. You’ll solve cases, work together with your colleagues, role-play, and unravel the mysteries of the resort and its residents.
You’ll interrogate suspects, engage in sci-fi world-shaking mechanics, and make many decisions that will change the story.
“In addition to innovating traditional RPG mechanics, we’re bringing something new to the table,” says Timo Albert, co-founder of Dark Math Games. “Of course, I shortened a few words. And maybe a few more bullets. It’s a lot more fun overall.”
The studio is the latest element to emerge from the fallout of the rotten atmosphere surrounding ZA/UM, the developers of Disco Elysium – a tangle of briefs, half-briefs and harrowing stories. After key figures stormed out of the studio, the writing seemed to be on the wall. But from the ashes new studios have emerged, the latest of which is Dark Math.
XXX Nightshift is now available on Steam and ready to be added to your wishlist. The release date is not yet determined.
