Russian No. 1 seed Diana Schneider defeated Germany’s Eva Liss 6-3, 6-3 to reach the final of the Hungarian Grand Prix in Budapest on Saturday.
The 20-year-old Schneider saved all three break points he faced and defeated Reese in one hour and 25 minutes thanks to four double faults from his opponent.
Schneider will be looking for her third title of the year on Sunday when she takes on unseeded Aleksandra Sasnovich of Belarus, who beat Slovakia’s Anna Karolina Schmidlova 6-3, 3-6, 7-5.
Sasnovich overcame 17 double faults and came from 5-2 down in the third set to defeat Schmidlova in two hours and 46 minutes.
Palermo Ladies Open
China’s No. 1 seed Qinwen Zheng beat France’s No. 4 seed Diane Parry 7-5, 6-4 in the semifinals to reach the final in Italy.
Jeong will face second seed Karolina Muchova of the Czech Republic in the championship match. Jeong is the defending champion.
Jeong saved three of four break points and won 84.8% (28 of 33) of her first serve points. Parry saved two of five break points and won 69.4% (25 of 36) of her first serve points.
Muchova defeated Romania’s Irina-Camelia Begu 6-1, 6-1 in the semifinals. Muchova was 4-0 ahead in aces over Begu, the 2022 champion.
