The Pakistan Cricket Board on Sunday announced its squad for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup to be held in the UAE from October 3 to 20, and named 22-year-old Fatima Sana as the captain.
Fatima will take over as captain from Nida Dar. The 37-year-old has been going through a tough time, with her team losing the T20I and ODI series in England before reaching the semi-finals of the Women’s Asia Cup last month.
However, the selection committee retained Nida in the squad that had at least 10 players who had competed in the previous tournament.
Fatima, a bowling all-rounder who has played in 41 ODIs and 40 T20Is, has previously led Pakistan’s emerging and domestic teams.
She also led Pakistan to a famous ODI win over New Zealand in the Super Over in Christchurch in December 2023.
Pakistan was placed in Group A along with Australia, India, New Zealand and Sri Lanka.
