New York sports teams will always get more attention than smaller markets. Since Aaron Rodgers joined the Jets last offseason, the veteran QB has come under a lot of scrutiny. Rodgers has participated in nearly every Jets offseason program, but did not attend the required minicamp this week.
Yesterday, manager Robert Saleh asked the media about Rodgers’ absence. Saleh called it “truancy” and the media ran with it. There have been mixed reports about the situation and it is not a good look for Aaron Rodgers. Why are you taking this trip now? It looks like the players will have some time before training camp begins. Did Rodgers make a bad decision?
Aaron Rodgers has made it all out in the media that he’s missing mandatory minicamp.
Aaron Rodgers planned this trip when he was still in rehab. that much #Z I knew about it since it overlapped with the release of the minicamp schedule.
Rogers is “not guilty” because he can’t excuse the trip, but he can’t excuse the contract dispute (Haason Reddick)…

When this is all said and done, Aaron Rodgers missing mandatory minicamp won’t matter at all. But not being present simply isn’t a good look for the team’s veteran QB. Moreover, the way Robert Saleh handled the situation was not good. He left a lot of room for interpretation. This gave the media the opportunity to spin the story and make it look like Saleh was angry. Rodgers missed minicamp. In reality, that’s not the case at all.
Rodgers planned the “tour” while he was rehabbing a torn Achilles tendon a few months ago. That trip coincided with the Jets’ mandatory minicamp this week. The veteran QB has already said he has spoken with the team and will not attend. Yesterday Saleh called it “a really important event for him (Rodgers)”.
Robert Saleh telling us where Aaron Rodgers is would have completely removed this as a huge news story https://t.co/nbPXXPEARN pic.twitter.com/n4zw6sMt9A

In just a few weeks, this story will not be a story at all. NFL training camps begin in about a month and Aaron Rodgers’ missing mandatory minicamp will be a thing of the past. Although the information is still relatively new, it’s a bigger story than expected. Regardless, the Jets know Aaron Rodgers will be fully prepared for the 2024 season. Especially after his 2023 campaign ends. New York’s first game of 2024 is against the 49ers at MNF. What kind of season will the Jets have one year after Aaron Rodgers tore his Achilles tendon?
