Brazil begin their Copa America preparations ahead of a friendly against Mexico in Texas on Saturday. In their last match, the Selecao drew 3-3 in a friendly against Spain, while El Tri suffered a heavy loss to Uruguay in Denver after playing on Thursday.
The Mexicans also qualify for the Copa America ahead of Group B alongside Ecuador, Venezuela and Jamaica, while Jaime Lozano’s side also beat Bolivia but will be hoping to avoid another defeat before facing the Reggae Boys. Mexico has lost 24 of its 41 games against Brazil and lost 2-0 to the South American side at the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
Dorival Junior’s side beat England before drawing with Spain in March, so 2024 is off to a decent start compared to a dismal 2023 after the disappointment of the Qatar World Cup. The goal of winning three consecutive 2026 World Cup qualifiers and winning the Copa America for the 10th time in the United States this summer is not too much to think about right now. Brazil will play a second friendly against the USMNT before group stage matches against Costa Rica, Paraguay and Colombia.
Here’s the storyline, how to watch the game, and more.

Mexico: Lozano will have to top Feyenoord’s Santiago Gimenez in the top spot despite scoring just four goals in 26 games for El Tri compared to 26 goals in 41 games for the Netherlands. Alexis Vega and Luis Romo should also join, while Edson Alvarez is a fixture in midfield.
Potential Mexican XI: range; B Garcia, Guzman, Orozco, Montes; Alvarez, Beltran; Romo, Vega, Huerta; Jimenez.
brazil: Eder Militao, Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo were all UEFA Champions League winners and were eligible for starts. Raphinha could also start with teenage sensation Endrick coming off the bench.
Potential Brazil XI: Alisson; Danilo, Militant, Marquinhos, Wendell; Guimaraes, Louis; Raphinha, Paqueta, Vinicius; Rodrigo.
prediction
Mexico will need to improve after their loss to Uruguay, while Brazil will want to keep the good momentum going. I expect the Samba stars to win, but it will be a narrow victory. Choose: Mexico 1, Brazil 2.
