A few years ago, Victrix released a gaming controller with interchangeable front buttons. The Pro PFG for PC and PlayStation 5 can transform the standard controller layout into a portable battle stick. Victrix and its parent company PDP have since been acquired by Turtle Beach, which today unveiled the spiritual successor to its modular controller. The Turtle Beach Stealth Pivot works as a wired and wireless controller (via Bluetooth 5.2 and 2.4GHz dongle) for Xbox consoles, PC, Android, and other smart devices. It is currently available for pre-order for $129.99 ahead of its release on November 26th.
The Turtle Beach Stealth Pivot maintains the spirit of the Pro PFG but replaces the faceplate replacement with a pivoting mechanism. Rather than having to keep track of various parts, here you can simply twist the left and right modules to see the second configuration. The right module can convert a hall-effect thumbstick and a traditional four-button layout to a six-button layout that more closely resembles a fight stick. Likewise, the left module can be rotated between Hall-effect thumbstick and D-pad layouts with the D-pad and two additional buttons. Since both sides twist independently of each other, you can mix and match depending on your style and the game you’re playing.
As with other Turtle Beach products, audio is a big feature here. There’s a 3.5mm headphone jack and a special audio mix function accessible from the controller’s command display, where you can also customize button mapping. The command display can be programmed to show “your phone’s social notifications for all your favorite social media platforms.” This is a helpful way to avoid reaching for your phone, which is also one of the biggest distractions during the game. Both are fun. In their own right!
