The family of Canadian actress Mamie Laverock, best known for her roles in When I call my heartShe said she did not intentionally fall from a fifth-floor balcony at a Vancouver, B.C., hospital last week.
Laverlock, 19, was initially admitted to hospital on May 11 with an undisclosed illness, but was later placed on life support after a fall on May 26. The actor’s family said when Laverlock was escorted from a secure medical facility, he suffered life-threatening injuries. He was taken to St Paul’s Hospital and taken to a balcony passage, where he fell.
On Thursday, Laverock’s mother, Nicole Rockmann, told the Los Angeles Times that Laverock “just woke up” and was “doing well” in the hospital.
“Hopefully this will be a turnaround and she will get over this now,” Rockmann told the publication. “I couldn’t be happier that people are reaching out and caring,” she said. “I’ll tell you the story.”
Initial reports of Laverock’s hospital fall led to speculation that she may have attempted suicide. Her family insists otherwise.
Rockmann said the family plans to take legal action against St. Paul’s Hospital for alleged negligence.
“We have a case,” Rockmann argued. “What we care about is that Mamie can recover, that she is alive, that she is fighting, and that she is strong. “We can’t believe she’s with us.”
Providence Health Care, which oversees St. Paul’s Hospital, confirmed to Global News that an “incident” had indeed occurred at the hospital. A spokeswoman said they were investigating what happened to make recommendations to improve patient safety.

Laverock’s family set up a GoFundMe page last month to support the actress, who played nursing student Rosaleen Sullivan in nine episodes. When your heart calls.
They wrote on the page that Laverlock suffered a “medical emergency” on May 11 and was hospitalized. Family members said Rockmann traveled to Winnipeg to help Laverock and “arrived in time to save her life.”
Laverock later moved to St. Louis in Vancouver. He was taken to St. Paul Hospital and admitted to the intensive care unit, but “was showing signs of improvement.”
The reason for the transfer to the hospital is unclear. Laverock’s condition worsened significantly after the balcony collapsed. Her parents wrote that their daughter’s body was “in pieces.”
In an update shared on the GoFundMe page, the parents said Laverock underwent multiple surgeries, including two 11-hour surgeries last week.
“I am just grateful to the doctors and nurses who have been exemplary in caring for her since May 26,” Lockman wrote.
She said Laverock was still in “tremendous pain.”
Rockmann said Laverock was no longer a St. Petersburg club. He said he was not in St. Paul’s hospital and had been taken to a trauma center. The family’s GoFundMe has already surpassed its $30,000 goal.
