Former Manchester United star Michael Owen attacked Nuser Mazraoui after conceding a penalty for one of Bournemouth’s goals on Sunday afternoon.
United lost 0-3 to the Cherries at Old Trafford.
The away team’s goals came from Dean Huijsen, Justin Kluivert and Antoine Semenyo. For the second season in a row, Andoni Iraola’s side recorded a 3-0 away win over United.
The result leaves the Red Devils 13th in the Premier League standings ahead of Christmas.
In his post-match interview, Owen was unimpressed with Mazraoui, who brought down Justin Kluivert with a penalty that gave Bournemouth a two-goal advantage.
Asked whether Mazraoui’s challenge on Kluivert was a “rash” one, Owen responded to Premier League Productions (via): Manchester Evening News), “That’s kind of you. A little rash?”
“A little bit stupid, more like that.”
“What on earth are you (Mazrawi) doing? There were two players waiting for him (Kluivert), and he jumped in there without scoring.”
“Just stand there and take him. It’s just a poor, poor decision. “The sad thing about Manchester United these days is that they are down 1-0 and you have no idea they will come back.”
“They’re not a good team,” Owen said. Ruben Amorim needs to watch that game and make sure players who aren’t performing well don’t put the shirt back on.”
“He has to be that cruel and merciless.”
In his post-match press conference, Amorim admitted that the current situation is difficult as he continues to implement his style of play.
United are scheduled to play Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux Stadium on Boxing Day.
