Did you know that the Silent Hill 2 remake will be released on October 8, 2024, as we learned from yesterday’s PlayStation State of Play? Well, along with the release date trailer, Konami shared 13 minutes of gameplay that gives a more in-depth look at the gameplay in the next Silent Hill Transmission, and now our resident Silent Hill chief has had a chance to digest it.
Yes, get ready Bloober Team. We have a guy on our team who eats horror food for breakfast, and he was kind enough to share with me his brief impressions of your short gameplay video. Obviously, if you’re reading this as a horror junkie, feel free to draw your own conclusions from the gameplay.

By the way, you can check out 13 minutes of gameplay below. Now here’s a quick summary from our guide writer Kelsey. First of all, the game in general looks much brighter than the original, not as dirty, gritty, or dark as Kelsey might have remembered or idealized. She admits that perhaps Silent Hill 2’s original look was a product of an era we should move past, but we’re not entirely sure.
They welcome the changes in camera angles and various modernizations, but Kelsey hopes this will make the game feel less like Resident Evil than Silent Hill. However, this may help alleviate the difficulty of the game. As tricky or frustrating as it may be, you don’t really know until it arrives.
Likewise, Kelsey believes that “James seems too powerful and badass compared to the original,” as he did in the game’s combat trailer released earlier this year. She worries this could detract from “the horror element added to the original game, which was all about this ‘everyman’ dude and how honest, cowardly and desperate he is as a result of his experiences and guilt.” Lastly, the appearance of monsters gets a thumbs up. But it would be hard to go wrong with Masahiro Ito behind their designs.
Now, the question remains whether the grime and pants-pooping scary atmosphere will live up to the task of our resident scumbags and panting terrorism experts. Let us know what you think of the title’s gameplay piece, which gives you Shiba Inu Mira’s mask that can be attached to James’ skeleton if you pre-order the standard edition.
