Owning Wrexham AFC sometimes presents problems such as: Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds‘ Stress levels rise in a very specific way. This is especially true for the final game of the football season.
“When I talk about Stockport thinking it’s the last game of the season, I can feel a couple of styes going into my eyelids,” McElhenney, 47, said in the Thursday, June 6 episode. Welcome to Wrexham. Reynolds, 47, shot back and made another suggestion: “I’ll skip the stye.”
“Just go right for some good, old-fashioned stress from the 1950s. It goes straight to the chest.” He added, patting his torso. (McElhenney revealed in a previous episode that excessive stress often causes styes in the eyes.)

“James Maclean is an iconic figure.” Wrexham Managing Director Humphrey Kerr he said in Thursday’s episode. “When his name was first mentioned to me, my eyebrows were raised at the thought that a player like that would want to come to us.”
Maclean, 35, had a long football career, including playing for the Premier League side before joining Wrexham in August 2023. Maclean was suspended for two games during the 2023-2024 season after receiving 10 yellow cards. He received harsh criticism and ‘death threats’ on social media for refusing to wear the poppy, a symbol of support for the British military.
“I know what I want to be remembered for in the name of football,” McClean said in a confessional. “But reality tells me I will look very different.”
The player also explained that because he is from Derry, Ireland, the poppy symbolizes a time when the ‘British occupation of Ireland’ caused ‘hurt’ and ‘pain’ within the country.
“I’ve felt that way since I was growing up,” he said. “That won’t change because I came to England to play football.”
Despite public sentiment, McClean said his time at Wrexham had been “incredible” so far.
This week’s episode also provided a major update on the Wrexham women’s team, revealing they will be playing in the United States for the first time ever.
“We could make history by bringing a Wrexham women’s team to America this summer,” McElhenney joked. “It’s exciting and economically responsible.”
