Revenue Minister K. Rajan said the government would ensure the safety of people trapped in the landslide-hit areas of Mundakkai, Attamala and Chooralmala.
Speaking to media persons after visiting the affected area on July 30, Rajan said that food and drinking water will be provided to the trapped people. Steps will be taken to complete the rescue operation in Chooralmala area as soon as possible. Additional Army and NDRF personnel and members of the state army are being deployed.
Rajan said 30 soldiers from Kozhikode West Hills, 180 DSC personnel from Kannur centre, 120 NDRF personnel from Arakkonam and 320 personnel of fire and rescue teams from different parts of the state, apart from police and forest department officials, have been deployed in the area for rescue operations.
A 60-strong troop of the Army Engineers is expected to arrive in the district on Wednesday. Personnel from the Madras Regiment will arrive in the area on Wednesday to construct a temporary bridge over the Iruvanjipuja River to connect Chooralmala with the rest of the district.
Governor Pinarayi Vijayan is coordinating all rescue operations, the minister added.
Forest Minister AK Saseendran, Tribal Minister O.R. Kelu, District Magistrate D.R. Meghasree and District Superintendent of Police T. Narayanan attended the meeting.
