United States men’s national team prospect Brenden Aaronson played a crucial role in Leeds United’s win over Derby County on Sunday, scoring the winning goal in the 79th minute to secure a 1-0 victory over Derby County. The goal was the result of some impressive build-up play from Leeds, with Sam Byram receiving the ball on the left flank. He made a quick pass to Manor Solomon, who weaved his way through traffic to Joel Piroe. From there, Piroe played an impressive pass to Aaronson on the run towards goal before scoring from close range.

As a result, Leeds took first place in the Championship, two points behind second-placed Sheffield United. They are also three points clear of third place, with the top two earning promotion to the Premier League at the end of the season. Leeds is aiming to return to the first division for the first time since the 2022-23 season, when it was relegated.
Aaronson has now scored seven goals for Leeds this campaign, matching his career-best season at Red Bull Salzburg in 2020-21. The New Jersey native is one of several USMNT stars who have performed well for the club team this season, but Aaronson’s move into a regular role at Leeds after struggling for minutes on loan at Union Berlin last season was a necessary one.
The USMNT winger has registered two assists for Leeds in 25 games across all competitions this season.
