All-rounder Washington Sundar shared his heartfelt thoughts after India’s defeat in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The 25-year-old took to his X (formerly Twitter) account to express his feelings and offer hopes for the future.
“Although it was not the result we had hoped for, this trip was an unforgettable experience. We left it all to the field and are proud of the heart and resilience the team showed. A huge thank you to our fans for their tremendous support. We felt it every step of the way. Moving on,” Sundar posted.
Frontiers of Sundar – Gavaskar Trophy Journey
The young all-rounder joined India’s Test squad for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy after an impressive home series against New Zealand. He took 16 wickets while scoring 89 runs despite India losing the series 3-0 at home.
In the series against Australia, Sundar took three wickets and scored 114 runs in three Tests.
Sundar missed the Day-Night Test in Adelaide and the match at The Gabba due to rain. However, he performed well in the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne. He showed grit and determination with the bat as he scored 50 runs in the first innings. His off-spin resulted in only one wicket in that game, but his batting resilience was praised.

In the fourth Test in Sydney, Sundar’s batting effort fell short, scoring 14 and 12 in two innings. The pitch offered little help to the spinners and Sundar bowled only one over in the entire match. That meant it was the final over of the game.
India’s series frustration
India’s defeat in the fifth and final Test at the SCG saw them lose a Border-Gavaskar Trophy series for the first time since 2015. Gautam Gambhir’s team, which had been hoping to qualify for the final of the World Test Championship, suffered a major blow.
On the final day at the SCG, India resumed their innings at 141-6 but were bundled out for 157. Australia’s Scott Boland caused a stir with figures of 6-45. Chasing a modest target of 162, Australia lost early wickets but cruised to a six-wicket victory within 27 overs.
