“Black voters cannot be taken for granted” in the 2024 presidential election, Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-Ga.) said in an interview Saturday.
“We know we can’t take Black voters for granted, and I like the fact that the Biden-Harris campaign is not taking Black voters for granted,” Warnock said on MSNBC’s “The Katie Phang Show” with host Charles Coleman Jr. .” he said.
Warnock also said, “The idea that black people have to just show up is a misconception.
“And I believe Joe Biden understands that.” Warnock continued. “(Vice President Harris) certainly understands. That’s why, as we move forward with this campaign, you’ll see how they (former President Trump) have invested much more in reaching out to the black community while also working to uplift it. And over the coming months, you’ll see the work growing to tell that story. The work will not be completed until November 5.”
A recent poll found that most black voters in Pennsylvania and Michigan said they would vote for President Biden in a hypothetical matchup. Biden and Trump have recently expanded their messaging to black male voters, emphasizing the group’s implications in the upcoming presidential election.
Rep. James E. Clyburn (D-N.C.) recently criticized Biden’s handling of issues with Black voters as “miscommunication” and “disinformation.”
“This is all about miscommunication and disinformation, and that’s what gives me a huge pause, so we have to be very careful,” Clyburn said in an interview Wednesday.
“I know the power of the media, the power of the media to repeat these things rather than report what’s actually happening,” he said. “That’s what causes the problem.”
