The Wales national team will wear a different kit for the first time next season following discussions with the women’s squad over period anxiety.
Captain Hannah Jones’ team will wear the traditional red shirts but red shorts and white socks, while the men will wear red shirts, white shorts and red socks.
Wales have also decided to bring back the white alternative kit (last introduced in the 2004-05 season) as part of rugby’s efforts to avoid kit clashes that limit the viewing experience for supporters with colour vision impairments.
The first game in the new home kit will be the Wales Women’s second WXV2 warm-up match against Australia at Rodney Parade, Newport, on Friday 20 September.
Jones and her team-mates will be the first to wear the alternative kit in the first WXV2 warm-up match away to Scotland on Friday, September 6.
“It’s always a proud and special moment to wear the red jersey, knowing you’re representing your country, your family, your friends, the players who have gone before and the Wales supporters,” centre-back Jones said.
“It is an honour and an exciting prospect to be the first national team to wear the new kit in Test matches against Scotland and Australia ahead of the WXV2 in South Africa in September.”
