Laxman’s extended tenure coincides with the opening of the state-of-the-art NCA campus on the outskirts of Bengaluru, which is expected to be operational early next year. The new facility, which is scheduled to be laid in January 2022, will boast extensive amenities including more than 100 stadiums, an indoor facility with 45 pitches, three international-size stadiums, a modern rehabilitation centre and an Olympic-size swimming pool.
During his first term at the NCA, Laxman focused on strengthening injury management, player rehabilitation, coaching programmes and development plans for various Indian cricket teams, including senior, age group and women’s teams. One of his upcoming tasks will be to continue to expand the India A tour programme despite the complexities of a tight international schedule.
