VR game developer nDreams has announced mass layoffs at its studio.
The studio behind games including Powerwash Simulator VR and Ghostbusters: Rise of the Ghost Lord announced in a LinkedIn post Monday that it is laying off up to 17.5% of its staff.
“After months of exploring a number of alternatives to avoiding such a move in the VR gaming market, and in the broader context of a challenging gaming environment, we deeply regret the loss of a valued and talented member of our team,” the post reads.
The company said the layoffs could affect the entire company, including senior management.
“Having dedicated ourselves to VR development since 2013, we have inevitably faced many challenges in building a humble independent studio into a world-class VR game developer committed to advancing both the technology and the market,” the statement continued. “While these inevitable considerations of losing valuable team members are the most difficult we have ever faced, our belief in XR games remains steadfast.
“We firmly believe that the proposed new structure will allow us to better serve our current and future audiences as we create titles that will define the medium for years to come. Our upcoming games FRENZIES and VENDETTA FOREVER are not affected and we can’t wait for everyone to play them soon.”
Insider Gaming has reached out to the company for an exact number of people who will lose their jobs as a result of the layoffs. So far, no response has been received. As of September 16, the gaming industry has lost approximately 13,000 jobs across more than 135 companies.
