Virat Kohli ended his career on the T20 international stage by clinching the World Cup trophy soon after India clinched their second T20 World Cup title at the Kensington Oval in Barbados.
“This was my last T20 World Cup and this is exactly what we wanted to achieve.” Kohli spoke after winning the man of the match award for scoring 76 runs in India’s seven-run win over South Africa.
“This is an amazing game. I told Rohit today when we came out to bat, some days you don’t think you can score, but when you go out, things happen. God is great. I bow my head in gratitude. The most important thing is “I’m really grateful to be able to do this for the team at the right time.”
Kohli ended his 125-match T20I career as India’s second-highest scorer. He has scored 4188 runs at an average of 48.69 and strike rate of 137.04. He endured a tough T20 World Cup all the way to the semi-finals. He scored only 75 runs in the seventh innings before scoring 76 off 59 balls in the final over.
