Former Indian cricket team batsman Vinod Kambli attended the 50th anniversary celebrations of Wankhede Stadium. Kambli has been suffering from several illnesses recently and had to be admitted to the hospital, where he was diagnosed with a brain blood clot. But he was discharged from hospital a few days later and on Sunday was seen walking into the stadium for the ceremony with the help of his wife Andrea Hewitt. A few days ago, Kambli also attended a celebration held at the stadium where the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) presented awards to former cricketers.
India captain Rohit Sharma, who brought two ICC trophies to the Wankhede Stadium – the 2007 T20 World Cup as a member of the team and the 2024 T20 World Cup as skipper – on Sunday said his team will do its best to host the upcoming 2025 World Cup. As the 2025 Champions Trophy took the stage and was displayed to the crowd, Rohit said one of the most precious moments of his life was taking the open-top bus around Marine Drive to bring the 2024 T20 World Cup to Wankhede.
“I am confident that the aspirations of 140 million people will be with us when we reach Dubai. We will strive to win and bring the (ICC Champions Trophy) back here to Wankhede,” Rohit said. said.
The 37-year-old made the pledge at an event organized by the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) to mark the 50th anniversary of the completion of the Wankhede Stadium here on Sunday.
The Champions Trophy, which is on a trophy tour to all participating countries, was moved to Wankhede to commemorate the occasion. Rohit took center stage at the Wankhede Stadium along with Sunil Gavaskar, Dilip Vengsarkar, Ravi Shastri, Sachin Tendulkar, Diana Edulji and Ajinkya Rahane and was the only Mumbai-born player to captain India in various forms of cricket.
Rohit said that the Indian team wants to celebrate its victory in the 2024 T20 World Cup at the Wankhede Stadium. Because the stadium has never let him down.
