Israeli airstrikes have killed at least 72 people in Gaza, including many women and children, despite a ceasefire agreement announced Wednesday by U.S. President Joe Biden and other key mediators.
Gaza’s health ministry warned the death toll would be higher as bombing continued overnight while the expected ceasefire was celebrated.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu delayed the ceasefire agreement, accusing Hamas of creating a “last-minute crisis” over the agreement. In return, Hamas said it would abide by the terms of the deal they say they agreed to.
Qatar, which is mediating the talks, said a ceasefire could begin on Sunday.
