If you missed it, VGC is on Patreon where you can get access to more podcasts, videos, and bonus content from VGC.
Earlier this year we launched Patreon.com/VideoGamesChronicle.
We strive to give you more of the benefits of VGC without charging you for the content you expect.
By supporting VGC, you’re helping to secure the future of strictly independent gaming media while also receiving a ton of additional content every month.
We’ve done a lot, including launching two new podcasts and publishing hours of exclusive video content. But what exactly will you get in return for your support?
More podcasts
VGC: Recording the Video Game Podcast has been a highlight of the week, and the feedback we’ve received since launching the show with our partners at Stak has been incredible.
We know how much our readers love it and how much they want more, so here’s what we’re bringing you on Patreon: two brand-new monthly shows covering topics that VGC specializes in: Old Games and Off-topic Chat.
Chatting Vintage Games, or CVG, is our monthly retro podcast. Each month, host Chris Scullion reminisces about a topic, whether it’s a console, for September’s Dreamcast episode, or a genre, like the upcoming horror-themed special in October.
Featuring a cast of VGC staff and experts, CVG is a podcast that draws on VGC’s vast knowledge and experience.
CVG is available in video and audio formats to Patreon members above the patron tier. Patrons can also participate in the show by contributing their memories and thoughts on the theme of the month.
Our other show, VGC: Off Topic, is exactly what it sounds like. If you’ve listened to the first few minutes of most episodes of VGC: The Video Game Podcast, you’ll know that sometimes we get off the beaten path and go off to West Ham, Scottish mines, and energy drinks. CVG is a monthly podcast dedicated to those conversations.
VGC: Off Topic is available in video and audio formats to Patreon members at Insider tier and above.
More videos
Another part of what Patreon offers is expanded video output, including longer looks at new games (including some of the last surviving Concorde footage on the planet), an extensive collection of gaming memorabilia, and even edited skits and IRL videos featuring the VGC crew.
Patreon has given us the opportunity to frequently upload impromptu videos that give us a closer look at the game outside of the traditional announcement, preview, and review cycle.
Not only that, we think we have a very unique proposition in this space, and we want to give you a behind-the-scenes look at our press tours and what it’s really like to work in the games industry.
The latest game content is available to Patreon members at the Patron tier or higher, while edited videos and content from existing titles are available to Insider tier or higher.
More VGC
Our final suggestion for Patreon is the simplest: more VGC.
What this means is that by supporting us on Patreon, you can help VGC remain an independently owned leader in games media. That means we can provide you with our daily news, reviews and opinion pieces, completely free of charge.
We don’t want VGC’s offering on Patreon to feel like we’re locking up what was previously available for free on the website behind a paywall. It’s an added experience and something we’re very proud of.
We haven’t even mentioned Chris Scullion’s weekly gaming news recap, which feels like it was plucked from a classic gaming magazine from the mid-2000s, and is available to all Patreon members every week.
But our journey on Patreon doesn’t end there. We’re just getting started. We want to grow, offer more, and hear what our Patreon supporters have to say about VGC.
As VGC celebrates its 5th anniversary this year, we would like to sincerely thank you for your support over the past years and hope that you will continue to join us as we take the next step.
It’s no secret that journalism, especially the field surrounding video games, is going through a tough time these days.
As a completely independent publisher, VGC has felt these market pressures more than most, which is why we decided to launch Patreon earlier this year to build a closer relationship with our readers and create a more sustainable path for the future.
By supporting VGC on Patreon, you help us continue to do what we do best – breaking news, insightful reviews, and thoughtful commentary – and you give us the foundation to create more podcasts, videos, and community features you enjoy. And soon, we’ll be offering exclusive on-site benefits like commenting and ad-free browsing to Patreon members.
