A rare incident occurred during the T20 Blast quarter-final between Somerset and Northamptonshire on September 5. It happened in the first innings. Somerset batsman Lewis Gregory was deceived by left-armed orthodox spinner Saif Zaib outside the off stump. The Northamptonshire bowler hit the outside edge of the batsman and wicketkeeper Lewis McManus took the stumping. The umpire sent the decision upstairs but found that McManus had crossed the stumping line before collecting the ball and taking the stumping. As a result, a no-ball was awarded.

According to Article No. 27.3.1 of the Marylebone Cricket Club, the guardian of the Laws of Cricket, the wicketkeeper must remain completely behind the wicket at the striker’s end from the moment the ball comes into play until the ball, delivered by the bowler, touches the striker’s bat or body, or passes the wicket at the striker’s end, or the striker attempts to make a run.
After leading Sussex to the Blast final day in his first season as T20I captain, Timur Mills expressed his disappointment at star pacer Jofra Archer’s absence from the match.
Blast Finals Day will see two semi-finals and a final played back-to-back at Edgbaston on September 14, during which England will take on arch-rivals Australia in a three-match T20I series at home.
The 2nd and 3rd T20Is will be played on September 13 and 15, which means some England players are likely to miss the Blast Finals Day. According to ESPNcricinfo, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) is reviewing the scenario, but players will only be released if they are not required for the final two matches.
Mills expressed his frustration at losing one of his starting pacers, Archer, ahead of the final, which he feels is “quite stupid”.
“As far as I know, there won’t be any England players. It would be quite stupid to be honest. There won’t be any England players either way, obviously. But it’s a real shame to lose a player like Geoff (Archer). Whoever replaces him will have to have big boots on the ground,” Mills said after Sussex’s eight-wicket win over Lancashire, as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.
In this scenario, Surrey will be the biggest casualty, with all-rounder Jamie Overton being recalled to England as injury cover. He will be joined in the T20I squad by Sam Curran, Will Jacks and Reece Topley.
Surrey are also waiting to confirm the availability of four Test players – Gus Atkinson, Dan Lawrence, Ollie Pope and Jamie Smith.
Warwickshire will miss the absence of non-international all-rounders Dan Moseley and Jacob Bethell, both of whom were included in the England T20I squad.
