Virgil van Dijk has provided Liverpool fans with an injury update on Ibrahima Konate, who was sent off against Brighton this afternoon.
Anfield’s frustration over a disastrous first half performance and a 1-0 deficit was compounded by the sight of our number five looking distressed as he walked to the dressing room holding his arm in a makeshift sling.
Thankfully, his team-mates did what was needed in the second half to secure a valuable win, with the captain sharing what he could decipher from the body blow shortly after the full-time whistle.
In an interview with Sky Sports (via BBC Sport, 17:11), Van Dijk explained: “There were so many bodies around the ball that I think he headed it over his arm. I hope it’s not that bad. All we have to do is look. “As a player with an arm injury, you can be pretty good, so I hope he’s okay, too.”
I hope Konate isn’t seriously hurt.
Obviously, it is too early to get a clear picture of how serious Konate’s injury is or how long he could be sidelined if it is as serious as it initially appears. But Van Dijk’s post-match comments suggested his centre-back partner should not be affected too badly.
With Liverpool already losing several players due to various concerns, Arne Slot didn’t have to see another regular starter in pain when he left the pitch this afternoon.
The silver lining for United was that Joe Gomez came on for the Frenchman in the second half and made a crucial block for Danny Welbeck shortly after Mo Salah had scored the winner.
We know Konate is a tough player, and we hope to see him back in action soon once he undergoes a thorough medical evaluation and gets a clearer picture of his injury.
