Liverpool fans have been through it all before, with us top of the league and facing doubts about winning the title, but we know only too well that this doesn’t always come true.
Speaking to the media after the win over Tottenham, Virgil van Dijk was asked whether Manchester United can win every competition we face this season and said: “Are you talking about a quadruple in this case?
“Wow, I think we’ve already answered it so we can’t even think about what’s going to happen in May.
“We wanted to go there in May, but we saw how difficult it was. Obviously, apart from what City have done (the treble), no other team has been able to do it.
“But listen. We only focus on what’s next, what’s ahead of us. That’s the only thing. I don’t get caught up in stories about possibly winning two, three, or four trophies.
“It’s all about being present for every game that’s in front of us. This was today’s Spurs. It was a tough game but we played very well and the next game is Leicester and that’s the only game we can influence. ”
It was a typically calm reply from our captain, who knows as well as we as fans that winning trophies is very difficult, never mind two, three or four.
Virgil van Dijk ignores Liverpool’s quadruple talk
After watching the Reds beat Spurs six times, we have proven that we are in contention to win every game put in front of us this campaign.
We are top of the league with a game in hand, remain the only team with a 100% record in the Champions League and have also reached the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup.
However, we could tell from Arne Slot’s comments after the win at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium that he was not completely satisfied with what his team did.
Such high standards from the head coach, combined with a sensible approach from the skipper, will ensure we continue to see these kinds of displays and we’ll see where it takes us.
The only certainty is that we will have a great start to 2025.
