The PlayStation 5 version of Valorant does not support gyro aiming. Because developer Riot Games doesn’t want to penalize Xbox players.
While discussing tweaks for X’s upcoming version of the game console, head of product management Coleman Palm was asked by a follower if the game would support gyro aiming.
“There is no gyro support on the console,” he replied. “Still, it’s a cool piece of technology. I’d like to play with it more.”
After users suggested that gyro aiming was a “blind spot” for some developers despite being the most mouse-like way to aim a controller, Palm pointed out that this was a conscious decision and not a mistake.
“It’s not a blind spot (for what it’s worth), but it’s not natively supported on Xbox controllers,” he explained.
“If we had gyro as the ‘way to play’ on console, we would prefer PS5 over Xbox. We don’t want to do that.
After it was suggested that supporting gyro controls wasn’t necessarily a favoritism, Palm said that while it agreed in principle, the team wanted to focus on creating a control system that would support all current console players.
He explained, “I’m not opposed to overtly supporting it.” “We wanted to focus our innovation on a more standard control paradigm to support players on both platforms. “We have people internally who are quite interested in Gyro and have been involved for some time.”
Riot announced at Summer Game Fest that Valorant will be coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S later this year.
Players can register now to participate in the closed beta test starting June 14th.
