The U.S. Embassy in Kiev, Ukraine, issued the warning after receiving “specific information about a potential large-scale airstrike” that reportedly occurred on Wednesday.
After the alert was issued, the embassy was temporarily closed and staff are being asked to shelter in place.
“American citizens are advised to prepare to evacuate immediately if a public warning is issued,” the U.S. Embassy said in a statement.

Employees are being asked to take the following actions:
- Monitor local media for updates
- Know your shelter location before an air alert occurs.
- If a standby warning is issued, evacuate immediately.
- In the event of an emergency, follow the instructions of Ukrainian officials and first responders.
This comes after Kiev fired its first U.S.-supplied long-range missiles at Russia in Ukraine’s first 1,000 days of war, which was approved by President Biden on Tuesday.
