Control of Chennai and Struggle in Punjab:
A fierce encounter took place in the Dharamshala clash between Chennai Super Kings and Punjab Kings in the Indian Premier League. Choosing to bat first, Chennai’s innings revolved around skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad and Daryl Mitchell after Ajiyanka Rahane was dismissed early. Ravindra Jadeja’s blistering knock of 43 runs further boosted the total to 167/9 in 20 overs off 26 balls. In reply, Punjab Kings produced brilliant bowling performances from Arshdeep Singh and Rahul Chahar, picking three wickets each to restrict Chennai’s innings to 167 runs.
Chasing the target, Punjab Kings struggled with their batting form with Jonny Bairstow and Rilee Rossouw departing early. Despite the efforts of Prabhsimran Singh and Shashank Singh, their batting faltered due to Chennai’s relentless bowling attack. Ravindra Jadeja and Simarjeet Singh spearheaded Chennai’s dominance, picking up crucial wickets to secure a convincing 28-run win over Punjab Kings.
Kolkata’s crushing win over Lucknow:
In the second meeting between Lucknow Super Giants and Kolkata Knight Riders, Lucknow chose to bowl first after winning the toss. Despite Naveen ul Haq’s early breakthrough and the dismissal of Phil Salt, Lucknow struggled to contain Kolkata’s batting line-up. The Afghanistan bowlers performed admirably, with one taking three wickets and the others taking part in one each, but they were unable to reduce Kolkata’s score, resulting in a whopping total of 235 runs.
Kolkata’s dominance continued into their bowling innings as they suppressed Lucknow’s batting order. Varun Chakravarthy and Harshit Rana wreaked havoc, taking three wickets each, while Andre Russell added two more important scalps. With contributions from Mitchell Starc and Sunil Narine, Kolkata restricted Lucknow to just 98 runs, securing a crushing win by a significant margin.
