Kayo Bites BBL: Heat v Sixers – Final | 05:39
FORMAT
The format for the WBBL and BBL Drafts are the same. Clubs take turns selecting from players across four rounds, with each club needing to pick a minimum of two new players during the draft.
Players nominate what salary band they want to be eligible for. Platinum players can be signed in rounds 1 or 2, gold players in rounds 2 or 3, silver in 3 or 4 and bronze in round 4 only.
For example, if England opener Ben Duckett only nominated for the platinum or gold salary bands, clubs could sign him as a platinum player in rounds 1 or 2 or as a gold player in rounds 2 or 3.
Additionally, each club must use one of their picks for the pre-draft overseas player in a round that corresponds to the salary band of the contract. For example, if the Thunder signed Sam Billings on a salary within the platinum bracket, one of the club’s picks from the first two rounds would need to be reserved for the English wicketkeeper.
Clubs are permitted to select four players in the draft if their salary cap permits it, but one of them would need to serve as an overseas replacement player – only three international players are permitted on a club’s central 18-person squad.
WBBL DRAFT SALARY BANDS
Platinum – $110,000 (depending on availability)
Gold – $90,000
Silver – $65,000
Bronze – up to $40,000
BBL DRAFT SALARY BANDS
The salary for the BBL’s platinum players fluctuates depending on availability. Players available for the entire season will receive $420,000, which is reduced to $400,000 if they play ten matches, $380,000 for nine matches, or $360,000 for up to eight matches.
Platinum – $360,000 to $420,000
Gold – $300,000
Silver – $200,000
Bronze – up to $100,000
RETENTION PICKS
Each club is permitted to use one retention pick in each drafts
If a rival club selects the a player that is eligible for retention, the club has a 45-second window to activate their retention pick. For example, if the Hobart Hurricanes select Heather Knight as their first-round pick, the Sydney Thunder could use their retention pick to secure the England captain.
However, using a retention pick counts as the club’s selection for that round, so in that example, the Thunder’s No. 5 pick in the first round would be skipped.

PICK SWAPS
The pick order was determined by June’s weighted lottery. The first two rounds of the draft flow in the order clubs were drawn from the lottery, but is reversed for round three.
As part of Wes Agar’s move from the Strikers to the Thunder, the clubs exchanged second-round picks in the BBL Draft. The Strikers received pick 11 while the Thunder got pick 13.
In the WBBL Draft, the Strikers and Renegades agreed to a pick trade where the Strikers received picks 22 and 27 while the Renegades got picks 19 and 30.
