McCaughey added that there were already signs of recovery as Ulster worked to balance its finances.
“The projections we’ve seen over the last two to three months give us confidence that we’re on track to execute on this plan. This is not a slash and burn plan.
“We have the staff we need, we have a player budget we are confident in and that will provide stability to the squad for the next two seasons. We have to be smart and careful about how we recruit.”
McCaughey sees a bright future for Ulster and is confident they will find a new sponsor once their association with Kingspan ends next year.
He has been watching Ulster for over 40 years and hopes to make a positive impact as CEO.
“I think my role is to bring leadership, to bring stability, to create a plan to take us to another place, but most of all, to create the right conditions, create the right environment, create the right culture.
“How do we promote the Ulster Rugby family and our approach to continuous improvement? Creating the conditions for everyone involved in Ulster Rugby to do so, to have the opportunity to do so, to feel part of this family and to feel that they are adding value to it will be the basis for success.”
