Zelenskyy posted on Telegram that two North Korean soldiers were injured and were receiving “necessary medical assistance.” The men were detained by the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) in Kiev, he said.
The SBU said in a separate Telegram post that the prisoners represent “irrefutable evidence of North Korea’s participation in Russia’s war against our country.”
“Since the prisoners do not speak Ukrainian, English or Russian, communication with them is carried out through Korean interpreters in cooperation with Korean officials,” the SBU said.
In his post, Zelensky said that the North Korean POW operation was not a simple operation. “This mission was not an easy one,” he said. “Normally, Russian and other North Korean forces take care of the wounded and take every measure to ensure that no evidence remains of any other country, namely North Korea’s participation in the war against Ukraine.”
