The latest strike follows the destruction of a road bridge in the Glushkovsky district on Friday, also across the Seym River. Kursk’s acting governor, Alexei Smirnov, confirmed Friday’s attack to Telegram without giving details.
The two strikes left Russian troops with only one bridge in the Glushkovsky district of the Kursk region, limiting Moscow’s resupply efforts, the pro-Kremlin Telegram channel Marsh reported. According to Marsh, both bridges were destroyed by HIMARS missiles.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said late Saturday that Kiev forces were strengthening their positions in the Kursk region. He said the Ukrainian Army Chief of Staff, General Oleksandr Sirsky, had reported that Kiev forces were continuing their advance and capturing more Russian soldiers.
“The operation is proceeding as we expected,” Zelensky said in his nightly speech. “Now we are strengthening our position. The foundations of our existence are becoming stronger.”
