Tucker Carlson falsely said on Sunday that Democratic candidate Kamala Harris is Samoan and Malaysian in a racist rant laced with conspiracy theories. (Watch the video below.)
Harris’ mother is from India and her father is from Jamaica.
But Carlson appears to be using Samoa and Malaysia as cynical plug-ins for non-white countries to dig into Harris’ racial background. Republican candidate Donald Trump and his allies have done this even more vigorously since the vice president won the nomination.
In his speech before Trump took the stage at Madison Square Garden, the disgraced Fox News alum also took another page from the Republican playbook. He insulted Harris’s intelligence and preemptively sowed doubt about the election results if she was elected.
“It would be pretty hard to look at us and say, ‘You know what?’ Kamala Harris received 85 million votes. “Because she is the first Samoan-Malaysian, low IQ, former California prosecutor to be elected president,” he sneered. “It’s just a wave of popular support, and anyone who thinks otherwise is either a freak or a criminal.”
“She’s not impressive,” Carlson said. “It’s very hard to believe that the rest of us are going to say, ‘(MSNBC host) Joe Scarborough, you’re right, you’re right.’ She won fair and square because she was so impressive!’”
“I don’t think so,” he added.
It wasn’t long after Carlson became a primetime star on Fox News that he promoted falsehoods about the 2020 election and downplayed the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection as largely “peaceful.” But he has privately expressed hatred for Trump and skepticism about voting machine lies that eventually landed Fox News in lawsuits.
He was fired after the conservative channel agreed to pay $787.5 million to Dominion Voting Systems. That’s because the company spread misinformation that it was rigging votes in Trump’s favor.
