It appears Even the Trump camp wants the former president to remain silent.
This is according to a story posted by Politico This morning, it was reported that the Trump and Harris camps were at odds over microphone rules for the September 10 debate, particularly over whether microphones should be on during the debate. Politico The Harris campaign reportedly wants to turn on the microphone to give Trump a chance to embarrass himself. The Trump campaign is also reportedly insisting on muting the microphone as a condition of agreement at the scheduled debate before President Biden cuts off the debate.
In a piece posted on X, Brian Fallon, Harris campaign’s senior communications adviser, urged Trump to “reject attempts by his handlers to suppress him with muted microphones.”
Fallon may have been right. Late Monday, Trump told an NBC News reporter who asked him about reports of a mic dispute, “It doesn’t matter to me. I think it’s probably better to leave it on.”
“I always suspected it was what his staff wanted, not what he personally wanted,” Fallon said, posting footage of the exchange to X. “That got resolved, and everything was set for September 10th.”
A Trump campaign spokesperson and ABC News, the network that will host the debate, did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Trump’s senior adviser, Jason Miller, said Politico The Harris campaign claimed that she was “looking for a way out of every debate with President Trump,” and that the Harris campaign wanted both candidates to be seated during the debate so they could access their notes. Fallon denied this.
But Trump seems to be the candidate who wants to avoid the debate. In a rant on Truth Social Sunday night, Trump claimed without evidence that ABC is biased, and while he didn’t say anything about the mic controversy, he questioned whether he would even participate in the debate.
Harris, on the other hand, seems ready. “The Vice President is ready to debate Trump live and uncensored,” Fallon posted on X. “Trump needs to stop hiding behind the mute button.”
