Former President Trump told reporters Friday that he “didn’t reach out to MAGA” when asked by California Republican Senate candidate Steve Garvey why the presidential candidate didn’t endorse Democrat Adam Schiff’s opponent.
“I don’t know Steve Garvey. I think he made a big mistake by not reaching out to MAGA,” Trump said, speaking about “Comrade Kamala Harris and the communist left” outside Trump National Golf Club in Rancho Palos Verdes after a news conference.
He said former Major League Baseball star Garvey said, “If there’s no MAGA, he doesn’t have a chance.”
Trump held fundraisers in California on Thursday and Friday.

Trump added of Garvey, “Well, I haven’t talked to him.” “I heard he wants the MAGA endorsement, but he should call me. If he had the MAGA endorsement, he would have won. If there had been an honest election, he would have won, but there was no honest election.”
Garvey previously told FOX 11 that she voted for Trump in 2016 and 2020.
“From day one, I have run a different type of campaign, and I have not asked for or received a single political endorsement. The only endorsements I have asked for are from law enforcement and first responders,” he said in a statement to Fox News Digital. “This week, we are launching a historic campaign, dedicating every resource from now until the election to talking to the Latino community in California.
“I have always focused on the issues that truly matter to Californians: economic well-being, public safety, protecting our borders, solving the homelessness crisis, and restoring leadership in California. I am running a ‘Steve Garvey’ campaign that is not partisan or special interest, but for all Californians. I am committed to solving the challenges that families and communities face every day and to giving California the voice it deserves in Washington.”
Trump also disparaged Schiff as “one of the ugliest politicians in history, Adam Schiff, a crook. He’s one of the most disgusting human beings and to think that he’s going to be a senator. That’s why you need me as president, because this guy is a slut.”
He said it was “unbelievable” that Schiff could represent the area.

The former president has long had a dislike for the Los Angeles-area congressman, who served as an impeachment manager in Trump’s first Senate trial and was a vocal critic of him throughout his presidency.
Schiff responded to Trump’s comment about X by saying, “I don’t think he likes me.”
“Steve Garvey is a good guy. I don’t know him at all,” Trump told reporters. “But if he doesn’t reach out to MAGA, he has no chance.”
Schiff is in very good shape to win in this heavily Democratic state that hasn’t had a Republican senator since John Schimer lost in 1992.
