Former President Trump gave Rep. Ellis Stefanik, R-N.Y., a glowing endorsement Friday, calling her “smart, strong, and tenacious” ahead of the state’s primary.
“Elise Stefanik is an amazing representative of the fantastic people of New York 21.castle President Trump posted the article ‘Congressman District’ on his website, Truth Social. “As America’s first patriot, Ellis fights to protect (our country) from the Marxists, fascists and communists of the radical left.”
The former president praised Stefanik for his work to support the military and veterans, grow the economy, lower inflation, boost American energy and “secure our beleaguered southern border.”
“Elise Stefanik is smart, strong and tenacious. She is someone I completely and completely support!” he wrote on Friday.
Stefanik, chairman of the Republican Conference, has risen steadily in the Republican ranks for several years. But after her hearings last year in which she explicitly questioned college presidents about anti-Semitism on campus, she exploded in popularity, sparking rumors that she might join Trump on the ballot this fall.
Stefanik wins New York 21 timescastle He flipped congressional districts in 2013, becoming the first Republican to win the seat in 21 years. According to The Hill/Decision Desk HQ, this district is a safe Republican seat.
Instead of competing in this week’s primary, Stefanik and her Democratic opponent, Paula Collins, will advance to the general election as sole candidates for their respective parties.
On Capitol Hill, she has become one of Trump’s most vocal defenders, even coming to his defense after the presumptive Republican nominee was found guilty in a recent hush trial.
Last month, she dodged a question about whether President Trump had mentioned her as a possible running mate, noting that “a lot of names” were being considered.
There was mixed speculation about who President Trump would choose as vice president. He said he plans to announce his choice at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee next month.
