In a post to Truth Social on Saturday, President-elect Trump accused Democrats of paying celebrities to publicly support Vice President Harris, including MSNBC host Al Sharpton.
“Can the Democrats pay $11 million, $2 million, $500,000 to get the endorsements of Beyoncé, Oprah Winfrey, and Al Pastor? I don’t think so,” the former president wrote.
“Beyoncé didn’t sing, Oprah didn’t do anything (she called it ‘expense’) and Al is just a third-rate con man,” he added.
Both Beyoncé and Oprah joined Harris on the campaign trail. Last month, Oprah said she “didn’t get paid a dime” to attend a livestream event with the Democratic presidential candidate. However, production costs were covered by the campaign.
Sharpton, a former secretary and civil rights advocate, hosts “PoliticsNation” on MSNBC and interviewed Harris in October. He is also the founder of the National Action Network, a nonprofit advocacy group that received $500,000 from Harris just weeks before his interview with the candidate, according to the Washington Free Beacon, which first reported the story.
Sharpton held a get-out-the-vote rally for Harris just three days after the segment aired.
MSNBC said it had no knowledge of whether the campaign had donated to the host organization.
“MSNBC was not aware of any donations to the National Action Network,” an MSNBC spokesperson told the Washington Free Beacon. A spokesperson declined to say whether the network would take any action, indicating it does not comment on “personnel matters.”
The network did not immediately respond to The Hill’s request for comment.
But Trump on Saturday questioned the legality of the donation amid Democratic scrutiny of Harris’ spending.
“So what is going on here??? It is completely against the law and I have heard of many others!!!” Trump concluded in the Post.
During the 2024 presidential election, the president-elect took issue with various media appearances by Harris, including an interview with CBS News, claiming the network altered her response before it aired.
