Donald Trump has lashed out at ‘incompetent’ politicians on the ground in California over their handling of massive, deadly wildfires. Even though the president-elect has not yet personally requested a damage investigation.
As of Monday, the disaster had killed at least 24 people and destroyed thousands of homes, with another round of strong winds expected to bring more destruction.
Trump has so far not publicly responded to California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s call for the president-elect to tour the damage.
Newsom said Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press” that he approached Trump “with an open-handed spirit, not a clenched fist.”
But instead of heading to California, Trump renewed his attacks on local leaders on his Truth social platforms.
“Fires are still raging in LA,” he wrote Sunday morning. “The incompetent police have no idea how to get them out.”
He added that the fire was “one of the worst disasters in our country’s history.”
“They can’t put out the fire. “What’s wrong with them?” He continued.
Trump also reposted a meme depicting the Hollywood Hills on fire, replacing the iconic ‘Hollywood’ sign with the words ‘Trump was right.’
It was one of a series of pro-Trump and anti-democracy posts the Republican shared to his 8.5 million followers in recent days.
Trump continued to speak out from afar, calling on his political opponent, Newsom, or ‘Newscom’, to resign.
Many of his comments were misleading.
Trump criticized the governor for refusing to sign the ‘Water Restoration Proclamation’. According to fact checkers, the document does not exist.
“The governor is focused on protecting people and ensuring firefighters have all the resources they need, not on politics,” Newsom’s press office said in a statement.
Trump also complained that there was “no water for the hydrants,” which is another false claim that needs to be debunked.
In a post posted on January 9, President Trump targeted Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, President Joe Biden, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and the so-called Green New Deal proposal, calling LA “complete annihilation!!” declared. !”
The countdown to Trump has begun

In his letter to Trump, Newsom encouraged the president-elect to “see the devastation firsthand” during a visit where he could thank first responders “risking their lives.”
