President-elect Donald Trump announced Saturday that he plans to nominate Charles Kushner, the billionaire father of his son-in-law Jared Kushner, to be the next U.S. ambassador to France.
Trump pardoned the elder Kushner, a real estate mogul, toward the end of his first term for a mid-2000s felony conviction that had landed him in prison for more than a year.
“Kushner is a tremendous business leader, philanthropist and negotiator who will be a strong advocate for our country and its interests,” Trump said on his Truth Social platform. “It will help strengthen our partnerships,” he said. & one of our greatest!”
Trump cited the “Entrepreneur of the Year” title Kushner received from the New Jersey firm Ernst & Young in 1999 and other accomplishments before his legal downfall. Trump failed to mention that Kushner donated $1 million to support his successful 2024 White House bid.

Kushner, a former lawyer, was disbarred from three states after being found guilty: New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. The charges centered around tax evasion, illegal campaign contributions, and retaliation against witnesses.
“Congratulations to Charlie, his wonderful wife Cheryl, their four children, and their 14 grandchildren,” Trump wrote. “His son Jared worked closely with me in the White House, particularly on Operation Warp Speed, criminal justice reform, and the Abraham Accords.”
Jared Kushner married Trump’s eldest daughter Ivanka Trump in 2009. The two served in key advisory positions in Trump’s first administration, but are not expected to participate in the second administration.
According to Forbes, the Kushner family’s assets are estimated at approximately $7.1 billion, including Kushner Company assets and real estate held by individual family members.
