Gregg Popovich is inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame. The San Antonio Spurs announced Wednesday that he has been ruled out of the team because he suffered a mild stroke earlier this month.
Popovich is entering his 29th season as the Spurs’ coach, and a timetable for his return has not yet been set, the team said. The stroke occurred at the team’s stadium on Nov. 2, and Popovich is expected to make a full recovery.
The 75-year-old Popovich, the NBA’s all-time wins leader and coach of five Spurs teams that have won league titles, has already begun a rehabilitation program, the team said.
“We are grateful to the extended community for providing privacy and space for the Popovich family during this time,” the Spurs said in a statement.
Coach Mitch Johnson served as acting head coach in Popovich’s absence.
