The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will revise toll rates on 25 toll roads in Tamil Nadu from September 1. According to official sources, the increase in toll rates will be between 5% and 7%.
According to a senior NHAI official, highway tolls are collected on 67 toll roads in the state and the revision was made on 36 toll roads from June 1. Normally, toll road tolls are revised twice a year, in April and September. However, since the Lok Sabha elections were held in April, the revision was delayed and made in June.
Now, it is proposed to revise the toll rates on 25 toll roads in the district, including Sriperumbudur, Wallajabad, Villupuram, Vikkravandi, Ullundurpet, Tiruchi, Madurai and Samayapuram. The toll hike will range between ₹5 and ₹150 for different vehicle categories.
The revenue earned by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways in Tamil Nadu was ₹4,221 crore in the fiscal year 2023-24. The state has a total road length of 3,109 km and collects tolls at 67 toll plazas.
