Strands is a new daily puzzle from the New York Times. You’ll need a keen eye to solve this puzzle, a trickier take on the classic word search.
Just like Wordle, Connections and Mini Crossword, Strands can also be a bit difficult to solve at some point. There’s no shame in needing a little help sometimes. If you’re stuck and want to know the answer to today’s Strands puzzle, check out the solved puzzle below.
How to play strands
Every Strands puzzle begins with the goal of finding a “theme word” hidden in a grid of letters. Manipulate letters by dragging or tapping to create words. Double-tap the last character to confirm. When you find the correct word, the letters will be highlighted in blue and you will no longer be able to select them.
Finding words that are not topic words still helps! You will receive a hint every time you find three non-topic words that are at least four letters long. This means that once the letters of one of the subject words are revealed, all you have to do is decode the word.
All letters in the grid are used to describe the subject word and there is no overlap. Every character is used only once.
Each puzzle contains one “spangram,” a special topic word that describes the topic of the puzzle and touches two opposite sides of the board. When a spangram is found, it is highlighted in yellow.
The goal is to complete the puzzle quickly without using too many hints.
