Thomas Tuchel, former manager of Bayern Munich and Chelsea, is known to be a strong candidate to become the next Manchester United manager.
Erik ten Hag is currently under a lot of pressure due to United’s extremely poor performances and results.
The Red Devils have not won any of their last five games in all competitions. The club’s goalless draw with Aston Villa on Sunday leaves them 14th in the table with just eight points from their opening seven games.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe was in attendance at Villa Park to watch the team in person for the first time since their 3-0 thrashing by Liverpool last month.
He was accompanied by his right-hand man Sir Dave Brailsford, CEO Omar Berrada, sporting director Dan Ashworth and technical director Jason Wilcox.
An executive meeting, which Joel Glazer will also attend, is due to be held in London on Tuesday and the future of Ten Hag is understood to be high on the agenda.
A report by The Peoples Person said the Dutchman was unaware his job was in immediate danger but was increasingly feeling he could be fired.
A number of replacements have been discussed so far, including Gareth Southgate, Graham Potter, Thomas Frank and Tuchel.
Earlier on Monday, it was revealed that United were ‘preparing’ a move for Tuchel in case they parted ways with the embattled Ten Hag.
The Mirror’s David McDonnell has now provided an update on this and indicated that Tuchel is top of the list of candidates to replace United’s Ten Hag.
According to McDonnell, “Erik Ten Hag’s fate will be decided on Tuesday when Manchester United’s management meet. Thomas Tuchel is the new candidate to succeed him.”
“Tuchel held talks with United in the summer but was unable to reach any agreement with senior officials and decided to stick with Ten Hag and initiate a one-year contract extension.”
“Tuchel remains a free agent and is understood to be open to a return to management at Old Trafford despite talks breaking down last summer.”
McDonnell also said that if Ten Hag is sacked, assistant coach Ruud van Nistelrooy will take over as interim manager.
