Dwayne Johnson was once the king of blockbusters, able to turn any concept into a hit. With the changing power hierarchy in Hollywood, those days are gone, and now his movies are just okay.
black adamConsidered a huge failure, in retrospect it was a solid hit, and time will likely be just as kind to his latest film. Red One. The Christmas-themed action caper is now available on Amazon Prime. Never mind the additional marketing costs after a disappointing box office performance that failed to recoup its budget. But the sad thing is, it really is. It’s not a bad movie either.
The cast understood the challenge.
I went to the theater to see it on opening weekend. Red One My friend and I tried to laugh at the movie, but thanks to the sheer strength of Johnson and Chris Evans, we ended up having a good time. That’s not to say this movie is a secret masterpiece, but it does feature a badass Santa played by JK Simmons, Lucy Liu as the film’s Nick Fury, a scenery-chewing Kiernan Shipka, and a Christopher Hebzu you’ll recognize. like ‘Game of Thrones’ Torsmund Giantsbane as Krampus in a scene-stealing performance. Although the sum is not greater than the parts, everyone involved understood the challenge.
Red One Chris Evans starts off as Jack O’Malley, a hacker, thief, tracker and not-so-nice guy who literally steals candy from babies. Dwayne Johnson is Callum Drift. As far as “totally fake names that someone thinks is cool”, it’s a name that fits right in there with Max Power, who happens to be the commander of the ELF (Enforcement, Logistics and Fortifications) and is quite capable of it. The same facial expression throughout the movie. After Santa is kidnapped and Christmas is threatened with cancellation, two intersecting paths spur action by the Mythological Oversight and Restoration Agency (MORA).
From ironic laughter to cheering for Santa
plot Red One It’s incredibly predictable and simple, but it’s also fun. No one is taking this film seriously, which gives it an absurdist energy that you don’t find in most $250 million blockbusters. Yes, this is the budget of this movie. No, you won’t be able to see it on screen because of most of the special effects. It looks like something from a SyFy original series. I’d say the evil snowman looks better in the movie than in the trailer, but what’s hidden is Johnson shrinking and growing like Ant-Man during the fight scene, and this effect looks terrible every time it happens.
despite The downside, Red One It’s fun because it seems to recall Christmas movies from the 80s and 90s that made targets not scary. Younger audience. Compared to some inexplicably popular modern Christmas classics: polar expressAt least it’s a breath of fresh air by trying something a little different. It’s also fun to see Evans continue to play trash after Captain America.

Red One It was always available on Amazon Prime until last year’s Writer’s Strike delayed its release and Amazon decided to fill the gap in its film schedule. Now that you can watch it at home, I predict it will become a cult classic Christmas movie. At first, I like it for the irony, but as time goes on, I find myself laughing at the movie’s stupid gags, and although I try to be cool and detached on the outside, on the inside I just want to see Santa Claus in all his glory. I know because it happened to me.
