Argonaut Games has postponed its remaster of classic platformer Croc: Legend of the Gobbos until next year.
In a statement released on Friday, the company said it had decided to push forward with the remaster’s planned December release to allow more time to work on the game, which is now scheduled for release in the first quarter of 2025.
“This decision was not taken lightly, but we believe we need a little more time to add the final touches to ensure the game meets the high standards we aspire to and you deserve.”
“After 27 years of waiting, we understand that this news may be somewhat disappointing. Especially considering the upcoming festival season. But our goal has always been to deliver games of quality and polish that you will truly enjoy. We appreciate your patience and support as we work to bring the alligator back in the best way possible.”
In August, it was announced that Croc developer Argonaut Games had been revived and that Croc would be the first of many Argonaut titles to return.
The remaster features improved HD graphics, modern controls (including the option to retain the original’s tank controls), updated cameras, and a retro video mode.
However, players who prefer a retro aesthetic can also access the game’s original 1997 PC version, which has been tweaked to run on modern hardware.
