India fast bowler Arshdeep Singh has opened up about the lively discussions he has with Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah during matches. He said both are legends of the game and he shares his ideas with them and asks them whether they should implement them.
Indian pacer Ashdeep Singh has been one of the shining lights of the team’s T20 World Cup 2024 triumph. The left-arm pacer has bowled brilliantly throughout the tournament and has proven to be the team’s true wicket-taker in the tournament, helping them to take the lead with the ball.
Arshdeep Singh was given the role of bowler of the new ball and death ball. The fast bowler lived up to the trust of the management, picking up wickets at crucial junctures in the game and helping the team to come out on top in stressful situations in the tournament.
Arshdeep Singh has been a magical performer for India in the recently concluded T20 World Cup 2024. The fast bowler finished the tournament as India’s highest wicket-taker with 17 wickets. With his incredible performance, India won the ICC tournament after 11 years.
In a conversation with Sportstar, Arshdeep Singh was asked about the lively discussion he had with Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah at the time of his death. The left-arm pacer said the legends of the game guided him and while throwing light on the same, he said,
“Rohit Bhai and Jashi Bhai are legends of the game. They have been dominating the international scene for a long time. Whenever I take a point, I ask them if they can execute it. They make sure my suggestions are taken into consideration and the pitch is set accordingly. It helps me focus on the task at hand. As a batsman, Rohit Bhai knows where the problem areas are in the batting unit so he suggests one or two things on how to bowl overs and those little things matter at crucial times.
“Jassi bhai is a unique bowler with a different bowling action, so what works for him may not work for someone else, but he makes it a point to coach him on how to adjust the bounce and even suggest zones. Jahan Pebol will soon be reversed (where the ball will turn over faster) . During the World Cup, he told me not to swing too early. He said that on that surface, the ball doesn’t swing much, so it’s better to hit it hard.”
We also disagree sometimes because we are very young blood. Arshdeep Singh on Jasprit Bumrah’s suggestion
Arshdeep Singh further talked about the suggestions Jasprit Bumrah gave him and jokingly said that he sometimes disagrees with what the senior pacer says because he is a young blood. He later mentioned that he realised that it would have worked if he had listened to what Bumrah said.
“He keeps saying things like that throughout the match and our discussions often get lively because apna bhi toh young khoon hai, so sometimes hum bhi disagree kar jatein hain un ke saath (I am a young blood so sometimes I disagree with him) makes me laugh. But later I realise that the suggestions Jassi bhai gave would have actually worked if I had listened to him. And I learn from my mistakes and try to be better,” he concluded.
