The Lions have won 11 straight games in Week 15. They lost 48-42 at home in a high-scoring matchup with Josh Allen and the Bills. Despite the loss, Detroit still sits atop the NFC playoff race. Both teams also have 12-2 records and are threatening to overtake Detroit.
In the loss to the Bills, RB David Montgomery suffered an MCL injury. Initial reports were that Montgomery might be lost for the season. Detroit waited for the veteran RB to see multiple doctors before placing him on IR. Luckily, Montgomery received good news that he could rehab his knee and return in time for the playoffs. This is the route RB has chosen and he will not have surgery. Montgomery returning to the playoffs would be huge for the Lions’ offense.
David Montgomery has a chance to return to the postseason for the Lions.

Earlier this week, the Lions appeared to have lost part of their elite RB tandem. David Montgomery suffered an MCL injury in Week 15. The team feared losing Montgomery’s production for the remainder of the season. This means Jahmyr Gibbs will be a workhorse for Detroit. Fortunately, the Lions seem to have avoided that situation. Montgomery could miss the final three games of the regular season but could return in the playoffs.
Detroit’s David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs are one of the best RB duos in the NFL. Both players have at least 11 rushing touchdowns this season. Gibbs leads the team with 1,047 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns. Montgomery has 775 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns. Running the football is a big part of Detroit’s offensive scheme, and Montgomery returning to the playoffs would be a game-changer. Nothing is certain yet, but this is positive injury news for the 27-year-old RB.
