At Meta Connect last month, Mark Zuckerberg said Meta AI is on track to become the world’s most used generative AI assistant. Zuckerberg said in the company’s latest earnings call that the company has passed a significant milestone toward that goal, with Meta AI surpassing 500 million users.
The 500 million user figure comes just a year after the social network first launched its AI assistant last fall. Zuckerberg said the company expects it to be the “most used” assistant by the end of 2024, but did not specify how the company was measuring that metric.
Meta’s assistant isn’t the only AI tool boosting the company’s business. Zuckerberg said time spent on Facebook has increased 8% this year and time spent on Instagram has increased 5% this year due to AI improvements in feeds and video recommendations. Advertisers are also leveraging the company’s AI tools, with more than 15 million ads created using generative AI last month alone, he said. “We believe there is more upside here,” Zuckerberg said.
In addition to AI, Meta’s Threads app also continues to proliferate. According to Zuckerberg, the service now has “nearly 275 million” monthly users. Zuckerberg added, “We’re growing by over a million sign-ups per day. Engagement is also growing.”
